Techniques in Clinical Supervision

Course Description: This course will focus on training the clinical supervisor with specific techniques to utilize in supervision. These techniques will focus on practical interventions to utilize within the supervision relationship to help assess, improve and correct clinical and related skills.  This course will include techniques with individuals as well as with groups.  This training will be very interactive, including role-plays and follow-up discussion related to actual scenarios faced within the supervision relationship. Participants will learn/practice:

  • The importance of self awareness, boundaries, and skill necessary to make supervision beneficial to the supervisee.
  • How to best utilize confrontation skills.
  • Techniques utilized to encourage peer support, growth and participation.
  • Benefits and liabilities for the use of: One-way mirrors, video taping, audio taping, written scripts.
  • How to allow for clinical development through indirect means such as program development, training, and research.

About the Trainer: Rod Ogilvie LCPC, CRADC, is the Director of Crisis Management Services & Training for Associates in Professional Counseling. He is an allied staff member at Linden Oaks Hospital at Edward, and has helped them develop direct clinical services focusing on integrating spirituality and faith into treatment. Rod has over ten years of experience working within hospital based treatment programs where he routinely provided individual and group supervision to graduate level interns. Mr. Ogilvie obtained his Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College Graduate School in 1990. He is a licensed clinical professional counselor and is a certified alcohol and other drug abuse counselor. He has provided trainings and seminars on numerous topics to schools, churches, professionals and retreat groups.

Continuing Education Hours: This program is recognized as providing 6 CE’s for: LPC/LCPC, LSW/LCSW. CEUs through IAODAPCA have been applied for.

Confirmations / Directions: Upon receipt of the registration form, we will mail or email a confirmation letter including location and directions. There will be no confirmations sent for registrations received one week or less prior to the workshop.

Refund Policy: Registrations cancelled before one week prior to the workshop will be refunded their cost minus a $25 administrative fee. Registration can be applied to another available training date, based on availability. There are no refunds within one week of the training.

Registration Deadlines: Registrations should be received one week prior to each workshop. Space is limited, and early registration is encouraged.
