Course Description: Clinical Supervision along with all aspects of the clinical practice, must address the various issues present in multiculturalism. From the Supervisory relationship, the relationship with co-workers, and the clinician’s work with clients, awareness of and sensitivity to multicultural factors is imperative to success. By attending this training, participants will:
- Learn multicultural competence guidelines for supervisors.
- Discuss reasons that multicultural supervision is often not implemented and the implications.
- Discuss the theoretical and conceptual models that incorporate multicultural issues in supervision.
- Address existing supervision models that incorporate multicultural issues.
- Give supervision strategies that build multicultural competence.
About the Trainer: Dr. Byron Waller, PhD, LCPC, is an Assistant Professor of Counseling in the Department of Psychology and Counseling at Governors State University. He also practices clinically at Refuge Christian Counseling in Chicago’s southern suburbs. Dr. Waller has been an professor, instructor, clinician and practitioner for more than 18 years. He has taught core courses in practicum, supervision, internship and community counseling.
Dr. Waller is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute, Grace College, Chicago State University, and his doctorate is from Loyola University Chicago in Counseling Psychology. He has clinical experiences in rehabilitation, medical, college counseling center, university settings, parent re-unification, and other community work. His interests include clinical practice and supervision, multicultural/diversity counseling and training, career counseling and career development, rehabilitation, mindfulness treatment, and spirituality/religious issues in counseling. Dr. Waller has published and presented at various national and international conferences in his areas of interests.
Continuing Education Hours: This program is recognized as providing 6 CE’s for: LPC/LCPC, LSW/LCSW.
Confirmations / Directions: Upon receipt of the registration form, we will mail or email a confirmation letter including location and directions. There will be no confirmations sent for registrations received one week or less prior to the workshop.
Refund Policy: Registrations cancelled before one week prior to the workshop will be refunded their cost minus a $25 administrative fee. Registration can be applied to another available training date, based on availability. There are no refunds within one week of the training.
